Our Casual Society There are at least two denominational “Pastors” who appear in television ads looking quite casual. Don’t get me wrong. There is nothing wrong with being casual. I dress quite casually as I go about my daily activities. I do so even more when relaxing at home. As these men, however, attempt to encourage people toward a more spiritual life, why is it that they appear so casual?

Sons of the Father Our world is filled with violence and hatred. There continues to be strife in Iraq and war in Afghanistan. There are tensions between Pakistan and India, North and South Korea, Iran and the United States. There is much violence and upheaval in Africa. Hate groups, terrorists and individuals with their own causes fill the news with shootings, suicide bombings and other violent acts.

Living Your Final Day While attending East Tennessee School of Preaching & Missions in Knoxville, Tennessee, the instructors would often offer words of encouragement to help us through the program. Something each student was encouraged by the instructors to do was to preach each sermon like it was their last. This simply meant that we should give it everything we had and proclaim the word boldly without any regrets.

Jesus: Our Ultimate Example Evangelism is an overwhelming subject found implicitly and explicitly throughout the Scriptures. In the book of Acts alone, the Day of Pentecost and several missionary journey’s by Paul and his companions serve as examples for evangelism. The Great commission given by Jesus shows that it is the Christian’s responsibility to teach the lost(Matthew 28:18- 20; Mark 16:15-16; Luke 24:44-49).

How Do You See Jesus? The Scripture reveals that on a particular occasion, “a great multitude followed” Jesus “because they saw His signs which He performed on those who were diseased” (John 6:2). These precious souls were destitute and hungry. Jesus was sitting “up on the mountain” with His disciples (John 6:3). As the Lord saw these people and observed their needs, He had “compassion” on them (Matthew 14:14).

Mercy, Not Sacrifice The Pharisees of Jesus’ day saw themselves as a cut above everyone else. After all, they were the spiritual people among God’s people. They were the self-appointed keepers of the law and the traditions of the fathers. They were the spiritual elite—at least in their own eyes. They took pride in keeping the sacrifices and the traditions. They took pride in their spiritual outlook.

Don't Let Your Lights Go Out One day one of the four lights of the bank of lights in our bath room went out. A difference could be seen, but it was not that noticeable. There was still plenty of light. However, a few days later, a second light went out. Now it became more noticeable. The light was certainly dimmer. In a few days, however, I adapted and began to get used to it. I did eventually replace the bulbs before more went out.
